According to Healthcare.Gov, In 2016 the fee for not having health insurance is the higher of these two amounts:

  • 2.5% of your yearly household income
  • $695 per person ($347.50 per child under 18)

However, this penalty should not concern you because getting health insurance should be your top priority. Health Insurance is one of the most important things a person can have. After all, your health is your most important asset.

There are no longer underwriting requirements to obtain health insurance so there is no excuse not to get it.

Open enrollment for Health Insurance starts November 1, 2015. This is the first day you can enroll in a 2016 plan and the coverage will start January 1, 2016. January 31, 2016 is the date that open enrollment ends, so don’t wait. If you miss open enrollment you must have a qualifying event in order to apply for a plan, otherwise you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period.

When shopping for a health insurance plan there are many factors to be aware of. It is important that your plan has an adequate network of doctors that accept the plan. Other things to consider are the drug prescription benefits, deductibles, the number of doctor visits covered, out of pocket maximums, government subsidies, and of course your budget. At Secure Term Insurance we will help you find the plan that is right for you.
